Numbers in Play: Unveiling the Statistical Landscape of Sports Research through Bibliometrics

Sport analytics has garnered attention from experts in sport science, medicine, statistics, data analytics, and engineering. Given the prominence of sport statistics research, especially with advancements in sports technology and data collection, a bibliometric analysis of articles related to sport analytics and injury prevention could provide valuable insights. This talk will be based on the results of a bibliometric analysis using the SCOPUS database, focusing on articles written in English published between 2013-2023, totalling 17,290 articles. Results reveal a consistent yearly increase, with 1,040 articles in 2013 to 2,346 in 2022, and 619 in 2023. Predominantly, articles are indexed in medicine (53.9%) and health professions (21.2%). A noteworthy 1% falls under computer science and engineering. In depth analysis into affiliations, countries, and authors, was done using the R software with the "bibliometrix" package. This talk will add value to the field by presenting evolving trends in sport analytics research, offering insights into leading authors and institutions.

The talk was given by Prof. Milica Maricic from the University of Belgrade.
