University of Valencia, Department: Statistics and Operational Research

Gabriel studied a degree in mathematics and a master’s degree in biostatistics at the University of Valencia. His strong interest in sport comes from the age of seven, when he discovered powerchair hockey, which he has been playing ever since. Although his physical condition forces him to move around in an electric wheelchair, this sport has allowed him to compete at a high level. In fact, he has been able to participate in some international tournaments with his country’s national team. It fascinates him to focus on the connection of two of his passions, sport and statistics. He is a PhD student from the University of Valencia, Spain. His supervisors are Carmen Armero (University of Valencia, Spain) and Luigi Spezia (Biomathematics and Biostatistics Scotland, BioSS, Scotland). His PhD thesis is related to Bayesian longitudinal models, in particular they are more interested in those models with hidden Markov structure. They pay special attention to modelling the performance of a player or a team making use of latent variables.
